SGSS PSG: Donation Tins

Dear PSG parents,

Best Wishes for an enjoyable time with family and friends during this holiday season!

A very big 'Thank You' for those of you who have so actively supported the school and participated in so many of PSG activities. By all counts, it has been a very busy year!

Donation Tins for Private Collection - please note
  • Some parents have asked if they can collect the donation tins after their family vacation, so we have dropped the Nov deadline. The General Office has kindly agreed to allow registration and collection of the donation tins any weekday before the Flag Day on 29 Dec!
  •  As the annual donation drive is to help provide pocket money for needy pupils, please pick up a tin and ask your relatives, friends, colleagues to give generously for a good cause - if you have yet to do so!
  •  For those of you who have been busy at work and couldn't help out in school as much as you would have wished, this is the time when you can definitely support your son's school, and the St Gabriel's Foundation, by taking up a tin!
A small reminder:
a) please ensure that you avoid solicitation in public areas when you request for donations prior to Flag Day
b) if you wish to solicit from colleagues in your workplace, a gentle reminder to check with your boss for permission to do so
c) please ensure that you keep the donation tin secure at all times in order to return it safely back to the school
d) you can return the tin any time /day to the General Office before the deadline of 1.00pm on Flag Day 29 Dec 2012

Thank you!

The Organising Committee would like to thank each and everyone of you who had contributed one way or another to the Teachers' Day Celebration Event, 'It's Fiesta Time!'

It was a tremendously successful event, we have received feedback from teachers and staff that they enjoyed themselves very much. Many have come forth to thank PSG for having put up a really interesting fun and food programme, as well as for presenting the generous lucky draw prizes. The event went so well that all of us who were there rolling the programme out enjoyed ourselves too!

I really want to thank all parents who stepped forth and variously helped with their time, energy, experience in preparing for the event, even as special thanks go to:

  • Lily - who took charge of the overall venue planning and procurement of tables and chairs so meticulously

  • Grace - who organised for the buffet spread and special hot stations with parent helpers
  • Esther - for all decor arrangements with her team
  • Ginny - who gave us the table game 1, photo booth, and co-led for The Macarena with Sherryl

We are giving it a name this year, 'Racial Harmony Food Carnival' as featured in the posters. Aside from the canteen stalls, there are going to be 3 'PSG stalls' for hot faves - satay, otah and ice-cream floats, the first 2 of which will be manned by some of our new teachers! See them in action!

Net proceeds from the event will support the school's Sports Scholarships (as with the previous year).

Thank You! - Decorations for Annual Speech Day

Dear PSG Parents,

Once again, we were entrusted with decorating the school premises for a very important event, the Annual Speech Day on 24 March. This year, our dear Esther Chok rose to the occasion, and led her team to create a really delightful environment for the Guest-of-Honour, Mr David Lau who graced the occasion, Principal Mr Lee, school teachers and staff, guests, parents and award winners.

She led many of us in decorating the School Hall, staircase leading to the Hall, Parade Square, and the canteen (venue for the buffet dinner) with designs that are very much aligned with the theme of the event, 'The Gabrielite Stars'.

On behalf of Esther and PSG, I would like to thank so many working and non-working parents who happily put so much time and effort whenever they can, advice and suggestions to make it all possible.

Call For Volunteers! - Making Bouquets of Roses (for a Principles of Accounts Project)

Dear PSG parents,

We have received a call for assistance for a POA (Principles of Accounts) project, please refer to Mr Tuang's email below which is self-explanatory.

If you have the expertise and the skills that are called for, ie, wrapping the roses into bouquets of 3, 9, 10 or 12 depending on the orders received by the boys, and you can spare the time and effort to help them out, please contact me on my mobile, or let me know asap via email, chan_may_ping@yahoo.com, and we will link you up with the respective teachers / boys to work out details together.

The boys have to order the roses asap by next Monday 06 Feb before the prices escalate, but they have to know for sure that they have help for professional wrapping to fulfil whatever orders they manage to get. The teachers / boys will source the materials which you require.

It will be good if you can confirm your availability and respond by tomorrow at the latest? The boys have turned to us for help now as they could not get the expertise from their teachers or parents. If we really have no such resource available amongst us, the boys will then have to discontinue with the project.

If you have the expertise and the time, this is a great opportunity to help out - the boys get practical experience and you have done your part to help the needy boys in the school's Financial Assistance Programme.

Thank you.

Yours truly,
Chan May Ping

Dear Mdm
I am Tuang, the POA teacher in St. Gabriel's. We would like to seek the help and support of you and the PSG in the school's Sec 3 Project work. The details are as follows:
Target group: Sec 3 POA students
Project: Sales of Chocolates and Roses during Friendship Week (Valentine's Day) where all proceeds go to the school FAP
Objectives:
1. provide a platform for students to develop entrepreneurship skill
2. to develop their social skills through communication
3. character development through this service learning project
 Description of the project:
The students wll be divided into two main groups and form two 'companies', one selling roses while the other chocolates. Students were given the chance to make their own decision as to which group they will want to join.  For each company, they are to decide and form into the following departments
(1) President
(2) Vice-President
(3) Marketing department
(4) Sales department
(5) Purchases department
(6) Accounting department
Students will have to perform tasks according to the department they are attached, such as taking and managing orders, deciding on selling price, deciding on quantity to purchase, what promotion strategies to use and how to prepare and manage the finance. With these in mind, we hope that our boys could learn some lifeskills to prepare them for the future.
 Help from PSG needed
We would like to get the help and support from the PSG in helping us to wrap up the roses into bouquet on the 13 or 14 Feb, as both the teachers and studets do not have the expertise and skills. The teachers will help to order the roses and get all materials ready.
We would appreciate if we could get a reply from the PSG side as soon as possible so that order of roses can be made soon. Thank you for your strong support in advance.
Regards

Call For Volunteers! - Study Area Supervision

Dear PSG parents,

As an ongoing support for the school, PSG members help out by supervising the boys at the study area. We are currently looking for more parents to come forth to take up suitable time slots based on their personal schedules. Please read on and sign up!

Why are some boys at the study area?

During the week from Monday to Friday, boys from different classes and levels who do not take Mother Tongue as a subject, come down to the study area when Mother Tongue lessons are taking place in their respective classes.

What is your role at the study area?

Your role is to play supervisor. All you have to do is to take the attendance of boys present and encourage them to use the time to do their school work or self revision. They should not disturb others in the study area and food and drinks are not allowed too. If you do on the very rare occasion meet with any misbehaviour, you can refer the case to Vice-Principals Mr Anith Kumar or Ms Jackie Cheng.

What is the schedule like?

The schedule for supervision runs from 8.00am to 1.00pm daily except Thursday when we start at 9.00am to 1.00pm.  You may wish to come in for 2 hrs a week or more if you can make the time.  You may choose a day you can spare the time to help.  We will then put up a duty roster (format attached) to ensure all the hours are covered.

Feedback from volunteering parents

They enjoy their time as they are able to pick up useful information while carrying out such supervision:
-          they are able to chat with the boys and find out the general view of academic subjects studied
-          which subject teachers to approach for queries
-          learn more about CCA, even get to talk to captains /vice captains/other leaders of CCAs to understand more of what is expected from our sons.
-          mingling with the boys also help them understand their sons better.
Other than that, volunteering parents are able to also do their own work, if any, at the study area.

PSG parent, Lily Saw, has kindly stepped forward to co-ordinate PSG support for the study area. please contact her on h/p 98.18.0122 or drop her an email at lilysaw63@gmail.com to sign up!

We look forward to your support with 2 hrs or more, at a time convenient to you. If you need further information, Lily will be more than happy to hear from you as well.

Thank you.

Yours truly

Chan May Ping
PSG Chairperson
